Interior Of Our Earth Just like an onion, the earth is made up of  several concentric layers. "There are three main layers of the earth's surface" They are, Crust Mantle Core Crust:               The outermost layer of the Earth.  It is the thinnest layer of the earth.  It is approximately 35 km thick beneth the continental masses and 5 km thick beneath  the ocean basins.                 The major mineral  found in the  continental crust are silica and aluminum, collectively referred to as sial (si-silicon, al-aluminium).                 The major mineral found in the oceanic crust are silica and magnesium, collectively referred to as sima(si-silicon, ma-magnesium).
